Re;memory: Framing the Imaginary
How can you frame the imaginary: something that has infinite potential? Look no further than the efforts of Black artists who have tirelessly created cultures that have thrived and still thrive under the confines of oppression.
For Black History Month, we will be remembering and imagining our temporal lineages. Choose a person, artwork, place, cultural expression, etc. to frame your imaginary. How has the subject you have chosen pushed the boundaries of Black expression? How can this subject inspire you? Create a piece (this can be a painting, song, dance, writing, etc.) that responds to these queries.
We will be addressing loss, Black continuity and survival in trauma, acceptance, collectivism, individualism and most importantly healing.
